[Background] "Does my face looks that scary to you?"

Like any other school, infamous among the students of Seikyou Academy are its seven mysteries, known, if not feared, by all. It is said that all of them revolve around the ghost that haunts the old school building, whom they all call Yuuko. Call it an elaborate lie if you want, but there's always a grain of truth in some rumors. Yuuko Kanoe is that ghost - Teiichi Niiya saw her with his own eyes. However, Yuuko doesn't remember her death at all. After Teiichi uncovers her bones hidden in the old school building, she gets his help to uncover the truth behind her death.

It is later revealed that Yuuko might have been the girl who was sacrificed in order to rid the cursed ground the school was built on decades ago. Furthermore, her amnesia is self-inflicted. She appears to be guilty of something, or she wishes to forget about her painful memories which have yet to be revealed, so she threw them away as her "shadow" - a dark reflection of herself. If she accepts her shadow and her memories, however, she can carry out her wish and can pass on.

But it just so happens that there are forces such as fear and love that keep her wanting to stay in this world...

[Personality]

Yuuko Kanoe, also known as the Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, also known as Yuuko the Friendly Ghost. No, the last one was a lie. Still, you could say it rings true to her nature. Despite her sinister appearance, she is a bubbly, playful spirit that's easily bored and loves fooling around with her friends. Err, her only friend, Teiichi. Always amusing to her are his flustered reactions to her flirting, among other habits, such as changing in front of him. In fact, he is comfortable with showing off her body because it isn't her true body made of flesh and blood. When someone looks at her bones, however, she blushes and screams in embarrassment, claiming that one couldn't be more perverted than when looking at someone else's bones. Although she often appears shameless, she knows how to get embarrassed, too!

She has her moments where she comes off as cold, sinister and aloof with regards to the problems of others, and claims that this, of course, is because she's already dead. This stems from her detachment from the world of the living, one which she cannot interact with. Eventually, however, she learns what it feels like to live once more because of her love for Teiichi. She has a tendency to get jealous of other people getting his attention, but not without good reason - Teiichi has his friends, but he's the only one Yuuko has.

Her loneliness is a theme that comes up often. Early on in the series, she says that she does not feel loneliness, but she definitely shows signs of it, especially after she realizes that she can't leave the school. Yuuko tells Teiichi that she hates the way Kirie doesn't touch her despite being able to see her. Unlike him, she doesn't reach out to her and understand her the way he does. That's what makes her lonely, and in a way, it intensifies her desire to be by Teiichi's side. Because of this, she does her best to help him, always follows him around school, and worries about if she scares him or becomes a burden to him. Going back to living a life without people she can talk to would be very devastating for her.

Since she herself is a ghost, she appears to be fearless in the face of dealing with matters that send Momoe and Kirie shaking, but that isn't true. In fact, it is her forgotten past that haunts her. One might think it's due to Teiichi that she doesn't want to remember, when in reality it's because she is afraid of facing her shadow that she can't remember anything. In an attempt to accept her shadow, she fails and ends up crying.

[Abilities]

Yuuko's abilities lie in what being a ghost entails, one of which is being invisible to the human eye. That is, unless one, you have a sixth sense or two, you believe in imaginary things in that moment you experience worry, anxiety and most of all, fear. Her appearance, however, is in the eye of the beholder. In front of people with a sixth sense or those who believe in her existence, like Teiichi and Kirie, she appears as her normal self, but in front of those who expect her to look more sinister and monster-like see her as such. It seems that she can blend in a crowd as a visible person sometimes.

She can be heard, but that depends on whether she wants to be. People often pass her voice off as "someone they heard over there."

She can touch and move objects around like a poltergeist.

She can feel a little pain caused by material objects.

Unlike most ghosts in fiction, she has weight and cannot fly nor pass through walls. Whatever a human can't do, the same goes for her.

[Other important stuff] Only people who can see ghosts can see her normally. People who cannot see her may hear her voice on very rare occasions, but the best way they can communicate with her and she with them is through text.

[First Person]

- What do you think of your home world?
It used to be boring. I couldn't tell apart the hours from days, the days from months, and the months from years... but recently, there's someone I look forward to each and every day.

- What were you doing before now?
Trying on a bra for once. Hey, does it look good on me? [ She leans in and pulls her blouse away to reveal some pink lace NO YUUKO STOP STOP STOP ] Do you think Teiichi-kun will like it? I need your honest opinion. Look at me. Touch me. [ STOP!!! ]

- Hey, what time is it?
Nine-thirty. [ giggles ] Why are you in a rush? Perhaps you've finally gotten a girlfriend? Don't leave me all alone now. What does she look like? Does she have glasses? Twintails? Is she as pretty as me?

- If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?
I'm already dead, so it's a little late to be giving me that. Why would I pay you to save me if there's someone I can ask for free? There's someone already helping me with that, you know...

- You are on the verge of death. You know there is no way to survive and there's no coming back. What is your last wish? Your last regret? Last thought? How do you feel?
... [ There's no answer for a long while. ] If I were to disappear, at the very least, I'd like to leave him with only happy memories of us. Lots and lots of happy memories he can remember me by.

- If you could change your current lifestyle or job career, what would it be?
I want to live outside the school and be with the person I like forever! But I guess that isn't possible... You can't bring back the dead. I'm nothing more than a ghost. Nothing about me can ever change. [ ... Looks like that question struck a chord. ]

- Do you have any future goals or dreams? What are they?
That's a strange thing to ask someone like me. The past, the future - do they all really matter to a girl who doesn't even exist in this era, on this plane? Back home, there's a boy I know who's helping me out with a problem of mine. For now, I'll do my best to help him in any way I can, too. He's trying so hard! It's pretty cute.

- Am I asking too many personal or strange questions?
Mm, it's fine. Sorry if they're a little boring; I don't remember much about my past. Then again, I suppose I don't have to apologize for that, do I? You're asking about me because you find me interesting, right? Ehehe. ♡ It's rare that I get to talk to people like this, so ask all you want. Soon, you won't be able to.

- Would you prefer being the stalker, or the one being stalked? And what would you do?
Are you planning on stalking me? My, what a pervert you are. But think about it. Wouldn't a ghost make the perfect, no, the ultimate stalker? But if I was being the one being stalked... I'd just be happy they can see me.

- What pleases you the most?
Having fun, I guess? And it's with the person I like I have fun with the most.


[Third Person]

Yuuko can walk. To everyone, walking is nothing special. It is a skill everyone learns and uses until they eventually reach a point when they can not do it without assistance. Fortunately for Yuuko Kanoe, she never grows old. But that isn't what she finds particularly fascinating at this moment.

A city.

Crowds of people of all ages, streets lined with shops, skyscrapers almost touching the clouds, taller than she had ever imagined - Yuuko was standing in the middle of a city, and not just the city right beyond the school gates. She was in another world altogether. Yuuko was standing well outside the walls she had been all too familiar with. This shouldn't be possible, right? It's like a miracle. Hope suddenly appearing after despair - this is too good to be reality. Is it a dream, then? She initially dismisses it as a silly idea - ghosts don't sleep. But if they did sleep, then she doesn't want to wake up. In this dream, she can be with Teiichi and stay by his side. That is, if he were here.

The thought makes her break into a sprint.

"Excuse me, have you seen Teiichi? He's this short, he wears glasses sometimes..."

Yuuko taps and tugs on random passerby, trying to catch their attention as she describes her missing friend. Some would ignore her, others would answer, but no could see her. Should they attempt to offer help, Yuuko had already moved on to the next person, or they could have sworn someone was talking to them at that moment. She can't give up on Teiichi now. She has to see him!

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I'd like to play her in a setting where a few people other than Teiichi can see her as well and watch her develop as a character through those interactions.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] We would prefer that characters under the age of 10 not be applied for. because Cardcaptor Sakura was mentioned uwaa
